Cappu Days #2

So this post is a bit late and it will result in me having to post several posts straight after each other so that I can post all my cuppa days before they start stacking up. For the second cuppa days I went to a place in Totnes called china blue. It is a pottery place that has a small coffee shop attached to it. Basically people go there to buy and or paint china and enjoy a good cup of coffee.

I have a new rating system for cuppa days which I will introduce in this post because.... Because why not?

So here it is cuppu days 2: China blue (oh my soul it rhymes)

First off, the most amazing bathroom that there ever was. This is literally the only bathroom that it is ok to take a bathroom selfie in.

Some of the decor. I wish that I had taken some more pictures of it because there was some amazing artwork and a whole lot of signs on the walls.

A half empty cup of Cuppuccino which was amazing and a pamflet, because why not?

And obviously, me drinking my Cappuccino.

Rating (/10)

Decor: 8.5
Cappuccino:9
Bathroom (contrary to popular belief, they're very important):10 (possibly one of the most amazing bathrooms I have seen in a restaurant.)
Service: 8 (it is self service but the waiters were quite nice.)
Overall vibe: 9
WiFi: 9

Because of the excellent WiFi I was able to get some work done and by work I mean browsing the internet for endless hours. So yeah, that is a little thing about china blue that I have written for you and I am now going to say (you guessed it) toddle doo! I don't know what has happened to me.

That's all, Bye! :)

Craving to be cultured: HMS pinafore

So as you may or may not know, one of my resolutions for this year is to become extremely cultured and this is the first of many experiences which I will label as "cultured".

On Friday night we (me and my English family) went to watch a play by Gilbert and Sullivan (Google it) called HMS pinafore and despite it being an extremely cultured experience (theatres are always cultured) it was hilariously funny (deliberate tautology)  and possibly some of the most amazing theatre acting I have seen I my life.

The cast was all male and it was refreshing to see how some of the female roles were portrayed by some of the men. And can I ask, do we really wave our hands and stroke our hair that much? But they were exquisite and the main female role (which was played by a man) literally had me in a sense of disbelief and awe. He had the most incredible falsetto voice that I have heard on anyone let alone a man.

The transformation of the males into female characters was done with nothing but minimal props and a change in a manner of speaking and movement and nothing more. I could go on forever about how incredible this play was but I think you actually have to see it I order to understand.

If theatre is not really your thing then I can assure you that the eye candy would be enough to keep anyone interested (even some of the fellas out there). I mean some of those guys men (I can assure you they were men) looked like they were carved by Michelangelo, if after he died became an angel and carved their bodies out of gold clay, fairy dust and unicorn tears.

So it was overall an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone and I can safely say that I am one step closer to being more cultured, and boy was it an amazing step.

That's all, Bye! :)

How very English of you

So, as I mentioned, I am in the UK and it is crazy amazing but also insanely cold which means it is the perfect weather for drinking bucket loads of tea and what not. There are certain (what's the right word?) nuances that I have noticed in the world of England and the British. Some of them are quite quirky, others are great and others are just plain weird. This is just a list of the main differences that I have noticed between South Africa and the UK.

1. British people are extremely polite.

I know that usually this is seen as a stereotype, but they really are very polite. And even when they try to come across as rude, you can just tell that it is against their nature to be rude or mean. They are extremely skilled at saying thank you and at apologizing, even when they do not need to. But I guess it is a good thing, except for the fact that for a while I thought that they were just being sarcastic.

2. They all drink so much tea

I really can't complain about this one because i love tea so it is the greatest thing to walk into someones house and to be certain that they will serve you a cup of tea.

3. They Greet Weirdly

The English have a weird habit of saying "you Alright?" instead of "how are you" and the customary reply is "yeah" nothing more, nothing less. This is weird for me because I am used to people asking me how I am am and then I would say something like "Good and you?" and they would reply with information about how they were. Now I just look like an ass because my daily dialogue with people here sort of ends up like this:

Person: You Alright?
Me: I'm good thanks, and you?
Person: Yeah.

*insert a million confused faces because what just happened?*

4. English people never introduce themselves

It just makes things awkward for everyone.

5. the weather is really strange.

DO they even have seasons in the UK? Because it sure feels like they don't. It is spring currently but it is literally so cold, and everyone's like, "what, it's so warm the sun's just come out for a minute and even though it's gone back behind the clouds, it's still warm isn't it?"

There are plenty of other things that are very different about the English, their world and their culture but These are the ones that jumped out at me.

I'm gonna go and drink some tea, because I have to do things like that now. :)

That's all, Bye! :)

CappuDays #1

So, I am doing 2 posts in one day and I think I have to in order to make up for not posting for so long. Anyway, a friend of mine came up with an idea to sort of document my stay in the UK by doing something creative and fun. I have decided to call it "CappuDays" and the basic idea is that every where I go in the UK, I will have a Cappuccino and take a picture of it and a little info about where I was and what I did so here is the first one.

Today I went into Dartmouth with some moms and we had some coffee in this small little French café type of place. They had the most exquisite pastries and I went for a coffee Eclair which was absolutely divine. We took a ferry into Dartmouth which was a cool new experience for me, and the view was so amazing it was kind of like a postcard of one of those very English seaside towns, which is exactly what Dartmouth is!

So here it is, CappuDays #1

Going across on the ferry, the view was absolutely breathtaking.

A random park that we walked by. It was so weird to see such spring like greenery when the weather was so grim.

A fountain somewhere near the park.

A random building that we saw in the way to the restaurant. I don't know why I liked this building so much but  there was just something really cool about it.

Outside the coffee shop

Inside the coffee shop

My regular cappuccino and the most delicious coffee eclair I have had in my life. Actually I think it's the only coffee eclair I have had in my life.

And obviously, me drinking my cappuccino.

So yeah, that was a somewhat interesting account of my day in the lovely town of Dartmouth. It is literally one of the most amazing places that I have come across here in the UK. Well by "come across" I mean- well, you know what I mean.

That's all, Bye! :)

Update

I have been absolutely terrible with this whole blog thing and I think that I have neglected this blog for a couple of months now. In an attempt to redeem myself, I think that it is time I give a short update on what has been happening.

Firstly:

I arrived in the UK a couple of weeks ago and I was welcomed by a whole lot of rain, (how unusual) but I have been growing accustomed to this gloomy weather and I have realised that I can just drink a whole lot of tea in order to overcome the cold.

Secondly:

I literally dived right into doing gap year stuff because this past week I have been busy helping out a web designer with a website and doing some Google adwords for him. (Adwords are those adverts that pop up on the side of Google whenever you search for something.

Thirdly:

I will be going to London next week to do my internship at a huge advertising company and I will be there for about 3 weeks which is really exciting. Even more exciting, and slightly more scary is that I may be living in an apartment alone for that time which will be quite an interesting learning experience.

Hopefully I have redeemed myself a little and I will try to get back into the swing of keeping this blog up.

That's all, Bye! :)

Doing Good

Lately, there has been a trend on the Internet called neknominations. I'm not going to explain what it is (that's what Google's for) but there have been a few people who have been putting a positive spin on the whole thing and the place that I am doing my internship at, is one of those people (companies, whatever, you know what I mean.)

We went to a place called FORA which is a sort of "animal shelter" and they take in abandoned cats and dogs and assist in looking after them and making sure they are healthy so that they can get a new home. The company donated pet food, biscuits and cat litter and also some time to play with the cute animals.  It is incredible how much these animals just want attention because when we gave them doggy biscuits they would run up to the fence excitedly but they wouldn't eat them, they would just wait for us to pat them before they went back to their kennels.

A litter of puppies was dropped of at the shelter and we got to play with them for a while, they are literally the cutest things that I have seen in my life.

Some pictures of the cute little puppies. Taking pictures of energetic little puppies is not the easiest thing on earth.
It's true when they say that you feel really good after doing some good in the world and I know it may not change the whole world but I believe that small acts like going to play with some abandoned puppies makes a huge difference to someone. And it does make the world that much better.

What good things have you done lately?

That's all, Bye! :)

Common White Girl Tag

I realise that this is long overdue and that the trend is most probably over, but I didn't get a chance to do one so here it is:

Favorite Starbucks drink?

We don't have starbucks in South Africa, so I have never tasted it, but I assume the double thing triple cara- coffee choc ugg boot laté thing that every one always orders in like movies and stuff.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

Not that long actually I mean like 15 minutes (excluding the time it takes me to shower.)

How many selfies do you take on a daily basis?

I would take a lot more if my dumbass phone had one of those inward facing cameras, but even so, I take more selfies than I am proud to say.

How many IG followers and pics do you have?

Like 3 maybe 4 on a good day, speaking of which: http://instagram.com/nomnommy3

Do you ever say “LOL” or “OMG” out loud?

Literally all the time, not so much OMG but LOL is my go to especially when people say something that they think is funny but really isn't and then I feel kinda bad for not laughing so I say LOL and chuckle awkwardly and then I tell a funnier story.

Do you wear the same clothing item more than once?

Jeans yeah, but not like everyday. I'll wear a pear of jeans on Monday and then maybe like again next week Wednesday sort of thing. But shirts and other clothes, No.

Are you racist?

Not at all. I love all people (like everyone) but British people have preference, then South Africans, but that's not exactly a race of people is it?

How many tweets do you have?

3209, I used to have more but I went through my archive and deleted some of the irrelevant sh*t I used to say.

Embedded image permalink

Exhibit A: I mean big letter, small letter. Really? REALLY???
Embedded image permalink
Exhibit B: Spelling was obviously not a priority of mine. And why do I yell at the end, like what is... I... Where... why????

Instagram, Twitter, or Tumblr?

Twitter> Tumblr > Instagram

What do you spend most of your time doing?

Honestly, probably on the Internet doing nothing really.

Who are your favorite YouTubers?

Grace Helbig, Jacksgap, Kingsley, Trey Melvin, RWJ, Ryan Higa, Jenna Marbles, Troye Sivan, Tyler Oakley and basically everyone who has ever appeared on YouTube.

How often do you do your nails?

At least once a week I think.

Are you a shopaholic?

The thing is, I would be, if shopping didn't cost money so no, not at all.

How many times have you watched Mean Girls?

like only a few hundred times.

Do you own a lot of clothes?

I think so, but I never wear them.

Do you take pictures of your food before you eat it?

If it looks really good then yes, and I know it's a bad habit but I can't help myself.

Do you wear makeup everyday?

No, I actually hardly ever wear make up, unless its a very special occasion like going to the Grammy's or the Oscars or whatever.

What are your average grades in school?

B's and some A's

How do you usually style your hair?

Out of the way mostly (does that count as a hairstyle?)

Do you always look presentable?

I like to think I do but hardly ever. Like I look presentable to the kind of people who have never worn a suit in their lives or the kind of people who spend the day in their PJs.

So it seems that I am quite a common white girl which is funny because I am black but that just goes to show: what is race anyway. So, go ahead do the tag and decide whether you are a common white girl or not.

That's all, Bye! :)
